A birthday card, from Raphael Thexeira.
This card was sent by artist Raphael Thexeira, for my birthday which falls on Valentine’s Day.
I’ve been receiving the warmest and coziest birthday and Valentine’s Day greetings and well-wishes over Facebook and I’m thoroughly overwhelmed sitting out here in sub-zero temperatures in the west coast archipelago of Sweden. A light blanket of frost has covered the entire landscape overnight – what a sight to wake up to and what a feeling of warmth!
Thank you all, for birthday greetings and well-wishes!
I’m wishing all readers a wonderfully romantic celebration of love on St. Valentine’s Day ahead!

A picture of the wing of the plane that crash landed in the Hudson River, New York. Photo by Steve.
A good friend of mine, Steve, lives in New York and this is his story about his walking by the Hudson River, today:
It was unbelievable. A plane crash landed and the only serious injury was a woman with 2 broken legs. Anyway, after they got everyone off, the thing floated down the river a couple of miles
and was finally tied off to a sea wall at this park where I go every day for my lunchtime walk. I knew the plane was there: I saw the place on the news and recognized it as my spot, exactly where I sit. It is next to a ferry terminal where the same vessels that rescued so many people usually dock and depart to spots in New Jersey just across the river.
I knew they would not let people over there today, but out of habit and partly out of curiosity, I went over anyway. I could not get to my usual bench along the water to sit in the sun on this bitter cold day, but I was able to take this picture of the wing of the plane sticking out of the river. Apparently the plane is stuck in the mud.
They say if you live long enough, you will eventually see everything.

Thank you for sharing, Steve.

Singapore desinger, Hayden Ng. Putting the Singapore fashion scene in vogue, for close to 30 years! Right –>
A warm and friendly personality, Hayden was already interested in fashion in his teens, when he was 16 years old, where he would spend his time drawing sketches of clothing designs and stitching them together.
His interest in the field developed and at age 21, he opened his first fashion boutique, a label under his own name, Hayden. This would serve a select clientèle in its beginnings. These days, his foothold is in theater (having designed for productions such as M Butterfly and Beauty World), costume designing and in designing for Singapore national events. Between 2001 and 2003 for example, he was designated designer for costumes seen in Singapore’s national day parades, where in 2003, he had 30 designs for over 7,000 persons. He was also the first professional fashion designer commissioned by the Singapore Disability Sports Council, as SSDC News reports, to design the Singapore contingent’s ceremonial attire.

Model: Cyntherea. Photo by Ace Chia.
This picture was taken by Ace Chia, a 17 year old Fashion Design student at LaSalle in Singapore. She’s beginning to explore photography and fashion photography. There are several of her works that have caught my attention, the above picture is one of them.
This picture reminds me of those that you’ll see in French fashion magazines, light contrast, light colours with a touch of drama. The umbrella, the pale dress, the pale skin all spells romance with a hint of dark mystery.
Beautiful!

Maria in a traditional Swedish folkdress, hand-stitched and sewn. Photo by Robbie Nordin, Robbiesphoto.com.
For some years now, I have observed that Swedes have several forms of folk dresses and a National Costume, that they use on special, festive ocassions such as Midsummer’s. Sverigedrakten lends a good history of the folk dress, where the dresses displayed the wearer’s province of origin, their distinct style of clothing, their culture and history. Folkdresses went out of fashion around the mid-1800s, where these days, they can fetch enormous prices at auction houses due to that the textile to the dress was usually hand-loomed and then the dress hand-sewn. An approximate cost to a folkdress today would be around 15,000 kr to 20,000 kr, which is about USD $2,500 – $3,000 or SGD $4,000 – $4,500. At around 07:30 hrs, Stephen Korte, myself and his Dodge
It was such dreary and cold weather to begin the day. Walking down the street half frozen and half awake, I expected nothing to happen, at least not before the first triple vente whole milk latte at the first Starbucks. And then I heard, an unexpected hip-hop beat in the far distance. At 07:30 hrs in the morning?
As I walked, the street beat got louder and louder. It was catchy. So catchy, I began to walk to the beat of the music, not caring if the DKNY black patent coat looked displaced in the hip hop genre. Perhaps it was a club that forgot to turn down their music from the previous night? Continue reading ‘Cars that go BOOM’

Red patent mid-calf Fuse boots, with covered platforms, by Carlos Santana.
Along with summer, comes the summer rain, and my search for stylish looking rain boots led me to these red hot patent boots by Carlos, by Carlos Santana (click on the logo on the left to go to the shoe store). These Fuse boots are perhaps not exactly for too muddy roads during the summer rains, but I’m on the look-out for something less clumsy looking than Wellies and large rubber boots as rain boots. Apart from Wellies and Hunters looking more suitable for gardening than going out, they make one look like you’re downright anticipating playing in a flood pond of some sort. Lynda Carter
I think most people would remember Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman when the TV series aired for 3 years during the 1970s.
When I was a child, I think I made sure to have watched Wonder Woman regularly, nevermind if her character was boring and not as comprehensively depicted as perhaps that of Batman or Superman. I remember I liked most everything about Wonder Woman, from her tiara, her big hair, to her red, blue and gold colour scheme in her superhero costume. I think I dreamt I might grow up to become Wonder Woman one day. Well, today, I know I can, at costume parties. Continue reading ‘Saturday inspiration: Lynda Carter’
