I grew up with having bikes around me, where as far as I could remember, I was hopping on and off a bike, to and from school mostly, with my dad in the rider’s seat.

The pictures below were taken in the early 1980s, in the East of Singapore. They show my brother and I on my dad’s Suzuki GP 100A, taking turns to be in the front seat of the bike. It wasn’t a big bike at all, but it was a stretch for the both of us, to reach its front handles!

And when I turned 18, encouraged by my dad, I went out and acquired both my car and bike licenses. I took the lessons simultaneously and the bike license came to me just two week after I received my driver license for cars.

On darling little turquoise tanked Suzuki GP 100A. Small, fast and fun to ride, this bike’s an absolute classic in today’s auto world. Both my brother and I grew up to love bikes as more than a means of transportation. My brother has had several Hondas in the 750 cc range, both to himself and shared with my dad.

Cars that go BOOM

Nibbling the Big Apple VIII

At around 07:30 hrs, Stephen Korte, myself and his Dodge

It was such dreary and cold weather to begin the day. Walking down the street half frozen and half awake, I expected nothing to happen, at least not before the first triple vente whole milk latte at the first Starbucks. And then I heard, an unexpected hip-hop beat in the far distance. At 07:30 hrs in the morning?

As I walked, the street beat got louder and louder. It was catchy. So catchy, I began to walk to the beat of the music, not caring if the DKNY black patent coat looked displaced in the hip hop genre. Perhaps it was a club that forgot to turn down their music from the previous night? Continue reading ‘Cars that go BOOM’

Anticipating hot latté laptops

The Asus EEE PC in Lush Green

I wrote about laptop bags and the newer smaller latté laptops awhile ago and it seems that these little portable technologies are well anticipated in Sweden. Everyone is excited about them!

Being absolutely French & Saunders on the aspect of computer technology, I tend to shop techno gadgets by design and colour rather than function, which is probably why I love Mac – you don’t need a clue to be its user.

No doubt, these EEE PCs are not Macs, yet. And in the rise of my own anticipation for these practical and adorable little gadgets, perhaps I’ll need to get down to understanding computers a little more in the near future?

More luxe gadgets

I wrote about designer mobile phones not too long ago, but today, in Aftonbladet, was a slew of designer mobile phones where the iPhone didn’t even make it to the list of top five most desired.

The newspaper was asking readers to vote on their favourites. I think I could go for the Prada or the Armani. The Armani being a tad pricier than the Prada and a tad smaller in size too. Specs? What specs? You’re talking to a girl here and I buy cars by colours!

But those designer phones certainly pale in comparison to what Apple is still churning out.

All that gleams is definitely 24k gold!

Price tag on that one? A cool 50,000 SEK or SGD $11,300. On second thought, that isn’t all that bad considering a non-plated gold one costs about half that price already. Oooh, I forgot to mention that the little Apple logo on the front is also embedded with glittering brilliant cut diamonds!

Still have cash and that bar of gold laptop is not your thing? Then how about a diamond studded iPod – the world’s most expensive iPod to date.

Points to note, the iDiamond costs a whopping £21,000 or ca. SGD $65,000 to own and was designed by the Norwegian goldsmith Thomas Heyerdahl in pink and white gold. It holds a disappointing 250 songs only (I mean, shouldn’t an iPod have 5,000 songs?) but with 430 brilliant cut diamonds – who cares the capacity! And it can be found in the Thomas Herydahl’s boutique in Oslo.

I’m packing my bags for Oslo just to get my grimy paw prints on it!
