Today’s outfit: Halloween do?

From John Galliano, Fall 2006. The perfect Halloween do?

I don’t have a Halloween outfit to show for, but I thought the Galliano creation featured here brings home the essence of dark, in my view.

From Sarah Mower, who reviewed his show:
PARIS, March 4, 2006

To get to John Galliano’s fall show, guests had to drag themselves to a bleak industrial studio on the outskirts of Paris on a freezing and traffic-clogged Saturday night.

How the elements cooperate, perfect weather for the collection!

I’m still a Galliano fan.

Dolce & Gabanna: Lets do street violence in style?

dg-advert.jpg
A banned D&G advertisement for Fall/Winter 2006.

In today’s Stockholm newspaper DN is an interesting article on redefining luxury, it’s changing premises and its spreading to the middle class rather than being exclusive to the “absurdly affluent”. I can’t help seeing the new D&G advertising for their latest collection in this light. It is quite obvious that they are trying to reach a different crowd than those who bought the original LV bags of the 1920s and crossed the Atlantic twice a year to spend the summer season in France, so much is clear. Today’s outfit

yellow_coat-053.jpg

  • Yellow felt wool coat, Gare de Robe, style by Gunilla Stolpe
  • Wool scarf, Swedish label
  • Black skinny jeans, Baxter
  • Gold peep toe heels, Ellie
  • Epi leather Gobelins backpack, Louis Vuitton

I actually met with Gunilla Stolpe when I was at her shop browsing. I really had no intention on purchasing a short coat, but I spoke to her some about her inspirations, her designs and she explained to me in great detail, how she made this yellow coat – which is what sold me the coat and of course, her pleasant personality.

I call it an Easter-coat, because of the yellow and this particular yellow is strongly associated with Easter in Sweden (perhaps other countries too where they celebrate Easter). There was one in a dark brown but I figured I haven’t got anything yellow in my wardrobe. Or very few yellow coloured items in my wardrobe, so why not brighten it up with this?

Apart from its colour which cheers me up just by looking at it, it’s warm without adding too much bulk on the frame. There is actually a matching ribbon belt to it which is not featured in the picture above.

Today’s outfit: white crochet sweater

  • White crochet sweater in mohair, by Rita Cordeiro
  • Yellow fitted t-shirt, Express
  • Skinny jeans, Levi’s
  • Murakami blossoms in monogram canvas, Louis Vuitton

My mother has been crocheting since as far back as I can remember. Just as fashion blogging takes my mind off my research work into critical linguistics, I think crocheting relaxes my mother. Almost everything that I feature in my fashion oriented blog are hobbies / interests of mine, as well as that of my immediate family.

Sunday casual: a voluminous dress

sarah.jpeg

Such a voluminous dress is actually on my wish list. But for the moment, I’ll be talking about the picture instead.

That picture draws me for several reasons. I am not looking at Sarah J. Parker or Carrie Bradshaw per se. What I’m looking at is the composition of the picture as such, the subject, the layout, the colours, the message/s that come across when I contemplate this picture.

I find it distinctly unsettling that such a beautiful woman seems to be sitting in a sinking mud-pile of material, when she’s supposed to be glamorous? Yet, the voluminous skirt and the softness of the material makes me drawn to her, where I draw parallels of flowy voluminous skirts to say, the fur of baby animals, the chubbiness and cuteness of all things young and innocent, think, a baby seal with large eyes that tell they need protection and not clubbing to death for their fur. Personally, I thought that both the designs and models looked yummy!

Saturday inspiration: gold python flats

Jean-Michel Cazabat Python Ballet Skimmer

I absolutely love Python. The Jean-Michel Cazabat skimmers are on my wish list. There was a similar pair I found in London from L.K. Bennett but they didn’t have the pair in my size. Unfortunate.

Well, at least I now have something to look forward to and to look out for when out about town, browsing. Perfect!

Here’s a look back at the week for me, in terms of outfits.
